The Business of Watches Podcast
Featuring a conversation with James Lamdin, Founder of AnalogShift

James launched Analog:Shift in 2012 after two very different careers in outdoor equipment and luxury automotive. A long time watch collector, James’ passion for vintage timepieces came to him from his grandfather, who left him part of his collection at the time of his passing.

Put off by the way in which the traditional vintage watch market was run, James positioned Analog:Shift to be a new kind of resource for the discerning enthusiast - dedicated to authenticity above all. His affinity for the well-aged transcends to his other passions: single malt scotch and automobiles.

When he’s not scouring the globe for horological artifacts, you’re likely to find him cruising around Manhattan in his ’67 Porsche or holed up at a whisky bar with a tumbler of Laphroaig, neat, firmly in hand.

Benoît Montfort of Maison Alcée

Maison Alcée is a French luxury brand offering a unique watchmaking experience, allowing enthusiasts to assemble their own mechanical clock, the “Persée”, from a kit of hundreds of components. Founded by Alcée Montfort and Benoît Montfort, the company provides all necessary tools, parts, and detailed instructions to guide beginners through the process of creating a functional and artistic timepiece, thereby engaging them in the craftsmanship and heritage of watchmaking.

Benoît Montfort has a keen eye for all things related to fine mechanics and vintage car bodies. In fact, he once arrived in a 2CV on his first day as an engineer at an automotive company. Although not a watchmaking expert in the strict sense, Benoît stands out for his exceptional mechanical skills. He channels his energy into giving new life to every object he encounters—from repairing his Mac to restoring his vintage Peugeot tandem.

Benoît oversees the creation of the Persée desk watch clock, enabling you to take pride in building your own horological piece. As the brand conductor, he masterfully coordinates a network of about thirty manufacturing partners and a team of watchmaking experts.

Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso

The Reverso is renowned for its unique and iconic case design, which combines Art Deco elegance with ingenious functionality. Originally introduced in 1931 for polo players, the Reverso features a distinctive rectangular case that can be flipped over to protect the watch face. This reversible mechanism, crafted with exceptional precision, allows the case to pivot within its frame, revealing a solid metal caseback that shields the dial from potential damage.

Over time, this caseback has also become a canvas for personalization, often engraved or decorated. The slim profile, linear grooves, and geometric proportions highlight the Reverso’s timeless style. Crafted in precious metals or stainless steel, the case exemplifies Jaeger-LeCoultre’s mastery of form and engineering.

Today, the Reverso remains a symbol of refined innovation—an elegant fusion of function, history, and design that continues to captivate collectors and horology enthusiasts worldwide.
